William C. Cage, CPI, PPS has over 30 years experience in law enforcement, investigations, protective services, security and EMS/rescue. Bill was one of the first four Motor Medics in the country, having worked with the Village of Northfield, Illinois Rescue in the late 1970s. He then spent over 4 years with the United States Air Force as a Law Enforcement Specialist. Bill left the active duty Air Force for an active Reserve assignment where he was assigned to base police investigations and later to a narcotics investigative team. In the civilian world, he became a member of the Culver City, California Police Department where he worked uniformed patrol. In the mid 80s, Bill joined the private sector as the Director of Operations of a private patrol agency where he obtained his Private Investigators and Private Patrol Operators license. There, he was involved in the protection of museums, foreign government consulates, state parks, schools and various neighborhoods. By the 90s, Bill was involved in many insurance, risk, third party administrator cases, bail enforcement as well as background investigations for companies such as Motel 6 and Joico International. In 1990, Bill was recalled to active duty with the United States Air Force and deployed in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm. During the end of 1993, Bill moved to Las Vegas and has spent 12 years with one of the larger gaming companies in town. He has managed corporate security training and up until mid 2006 was the investigations manager for the legendary Stardust Resort & Casino. While in gaming, he was involved in the first casino use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to save a patron, made numerous arrests -- to include a Worlds Most Wanted -- and worked with many entertainers and VIPs, to include supervising the protection detail for Lennox Lewis and his promoter during the Lewis v. Tyson fight. Bill is a graduate of two police academies, the DEA Narcotic Investigators School and The Reid Institutes regular and advanced course on interview and interrogation. While the courses completed are far too numerous to list, Bill has completed training by the FBI, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Department of Homeland Security, University of Nevada Las Vegas, Front Sight Firearms Training Institute, Personal Protection Consultants, Taser International, Executive Security International, Kroll Government Services, Defense Training International and many others.
Bill has been involved in training casino security officers as an instructor in use of force, handcuffing, expandable baton, pepper spray, Automated External Defibrillator, first aid, CPR, oxygen use, laws of arrest and detention, report writing, Management Of Aggressive Behavior, and many other topics.
Additionally, Bill has presented on investigations, internet safety, laws of arrest, and executive protection to various groups as well as instructing in protective service detail operations. As a University of Nevada, Las Vegas/Department of Homeland Security certified instructor, Bill presented in 2006 at the Supreme Court of the State of Louisiana on Homeland Security issues. In addition to being a licensed Private Investigator, Private Patrolman and Security Consultant in the State of Nevada, Bill received his Certified Professional Investigator (CPI) certification from the California Association of Licensed Investigators (CALI) in 1987 and the Personal Protection Specialist (PPS) certification from the Executive Protection Institute in 2004. Bill has received a Security Professional award from the Las Vegas Security Chiefs Association, a Heroic Service Medal from the Clark County (NV) Commission and the Outstanding Professional Achievement Award, 2008 from the Nine Lives Associates. As a member of the Nine Lives Associates, Bill was asked to assist with Hurricane Katrina law enforcement operations in September of 2005. Bill volunteered to fly down to Gretna, LA, a suburb bordering New Orleans to be sworn in as a local law enforcement officer and assist the people of south-eastern Louisiana. Bill worked protecting relief ships and workers, manned checkpoints, patrolled via police ATV in storm damaged areas, assisted local police on patrols, conducted advance surveys and risk assessments as well as protective escorts of various local government officials and dignitaries.
On December 9, 2006 at a black tie affair in New Orleans at the National World War II Museum, Bill was honored along with other members of the Nine Lives Associates and members of the Gretna Police Department. Bill received a Meritorious Service Medal from the Gretna P. D. The citation to accompany the medal, signed by the Chief of Police and Dr. Richard Kobetz, Executive Director of the Executive Protection Institute states in part, In recognition of Meritorious Service to the City of Gretna Police Department, above all when his bravery, dedication and self sacrifice was exemplified by his timeless response to the community during the difficult and dangerous days in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, August 29, 2005.
The Nine Lives Associates (NLA), the alumni group of the Executive Protection Institute (EPI), has awarded Mr. Cage their Award for Outstanding Professional Achievement, 2008. The award was made at the Nine Lives Associates 27th annual conference and black tie dinner in Las Vegas, Nevada. Dr. Richard W. Kobetz, Executive Director of EPI presented the award to Mr. Cage, whom he refers to as Mr. Las Vegas as a result of his years of experience in casino security/investigations with Boyd Gaming.
